Tomorrow, Wednesday, March 4, crews will be replacing a hydrant that was hit by a vehicle on S. 76th Street between W. Arthur Avenue and W. Hayes Street. No parking signs are in place on both sides of S. 76th Street to allow for split traffic lanes. All work should take place at or behind the curb, so crews will be able to open the road fully after the repairs are made.

Last night, Feb. 24, the Common Councils of Wauwatosa and West Allis have each voted to approve an intergovernmental agreement to move forward with the creation of a joint fire department, which will be named Milwaukee Metro Fire Rescue. The Wauwatosa Common Council voted 12-2 in favor, and the West Allis Common Council voted 10-0 in favor.

This historic collaboration reflects both communities’ shared commitment to providing cost-effective municipal services, prioritizing fiscal responsibility, and providing excellent fire and EMS services to the community. By merging resources and expertise, Milwaukee Metro Fire Rescue will enhance emergency response capabilities while reducing duplication and maximizing taxpayer value.

The next steps in this process are detailed in the timeline available at www.WestAllisWI.gov/FireDepartmentMerger

There has been a water main break on the 8200 block of W. Oklahoma Ave. Traffic control will be placed to block one lane of westbound traffic on W. Oklahoma to allow a safe work zone for crews. We anticipate the leak to be fixed by 3 p.m. today. Pavement repairs will take place tomorrow, and the road will be fully open to traffic by Wednesday morning.
