Portion Of Hank Aaron State Trail To Close During Wisconsin State Fair, Alternate Route Available
MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) in partnership with Wisconsin State Fair Park officials announced that the Hank Aaron State Trail will once again be closed between S. 76th St. and S. 84th St. during the 2025 Wisconsin State Fair to ensure that safety continues to be a top priority. The fair will run July 31 through Aug. 10, 2025.
The Hank Aaron State Trail runs east/west and passes over State Fair Park north of W. Schlinger Ave. west of the Fair Park, Fifth Street within the Fair Park and W. Pierce St. east of the Fair Park. In recent years, State Fair Park Management and Police have worked diligently to secure the entire perimeter of the park by adding metal detectors at all admission entrances, installing more secure fencing, instituting bag size restrictions and reconfiguring gates, entrances and exits. Allowing an elevated trail that runs directly over visitors and vendors at State Fair Park to stay open during the State Fair severely compromises this secure perimeter.
"While we understand the challenges this causes for trail users, I believe this is a necessary security measure that will help to ensure the safety of our fairgoers, exhibitors, vendors, operators and staff," said John Yingling, Chairman of the Wisconsin State Fair Park Board of Directors.
Alternative routes are available in both directions. It is understood that various routes may be utilized based on preference and destination. In advance of the closure, which will begin on July 31 at 8 a.m., State Fair Park staff will post signage on the trail regarding the closure dates and alternate routes. State Fair Park will also be adding additional striping for bike lanes in both directions on North St. (Adler), which runs between the State Fair Park North Parking lot and the UScellular Main Entrance. Additional information can be found online on the Wisconsin State Fair website.
Questions and concerns from the public may be directed to State Fair Park Police at 414-519-7324.

The Water Division has confirmed a water main break at the intersection of Lincoln Avenue and 109th Street. To ensure a safe work zone for the repair crew, eastbound traffic will be temporarily detoured from 109th Street to 108th Street.
Water service will be temporarily shut off to five commercial properties in the affected area. Impacted businesses have been notified in person by Water Division staff.
Utility locates are currently underway, and repair work is scheduled to begin around noon today. Barring any unforeseen complications, repairs are expected to be completed and water service restored by 8 p.m. this evening.
Motorists are advised to use extreme caution when traveling through the area to ensure both their safety and the safety of crews working on-site.

Here are the latest updates on the Liberty Heights Park wading pool and pavilion.
POOL - We’re working to open the wading pool as soon as possible. This year, the pool required new grates, which have been ordered and are currently pending delivery and installation. Once installed, we’ll be able to move forward with opening the pool. The pavilion restrooms are not yet available for use. In the meantime, a portable toilet is on site for park visitors.
PAVILION -The pavilion will open once we receive official occupancy approval. We’re currently finalizing a few remaining items to ensure the structure meets all building, plumbing, and electrical codes. We're also completing the installation of an electronic locking system for the exterior restrooms.
STAY INFORMED - We’ll share updates as they become available and will announce the official opening of both the wading pool and pavilion on our website, social media, and app. Thank you for your patience as we work to complete these improvements for the community.

UPDATE: The water main break on Oklahoma Avenue is just west of HWY 100 between 107th and 109th. In addition to previously reported lane closures, we’ve also placed a no-right-turn sign on HWY 100 heading south due to being too tight of turn. The turn lane heading north on HWY 100 to turn west onto Oklahoma is still open.

Due to the extreme heat, the concrete pavement in the 2400 block of southbound S. 92nd Street has buckled. The buckling has damaged the concrete, as well as storm sewer structures in the concrete.
City of West Allis DPW crews have blocked this portion of S. 92nd Street for the safety of the public. Crews will begin to remove and replace the pavement and damaged portions of the structures after Digger's Hotline crews are able to mark the underground utilities. Weather permitting, we hope to pour the new pavement by the end of the week.

There has been a water main break on Oklahoma Avenue between 107th and 109th. All westbound lanes will be closed except for the lane closest to the median. Expect delays. Avoid the area if possible. We anticipate completing the water main repair & restoring service by 3 p.m. today. At least one WB lane will remain closed through 6/25 to allow for safe pavement restoration.
