Spring 2026: Community in Focus
The City of West Allis and the Community Impact Partnership and Foundation are hosting a five-session leadership workshop to provide West Allis residents and business owners with an opportunity to develop their leadership skills and explore real community challenges. Each session will focus on a key issue impacting the city, offering participants the opportunity to work alongside community leaders, organizations, and residents to develop practical ideas, pilot concepts, or strategic recommendations. The goal is not only leadership development, but tangible community benefit. Registration is required.

The sessions will be held on Thursdays, Feb. 19, 26, Mar. 5, 12, and 19 from 6-8 p.m. at Aurora West Allis, 8901 W. Lincoln Ave.
Registration is open to West Allis residents/business owners and will be limited to 20 participants on a first-come, first-served basis. Sessions will consist of presentations, discussion panels, and interactive small group work. Please be sure you can commit to all 5 sessions in this series before registering. When registration is full, a waitlist will be created for a future series.

Due to the school district closing tomorrow, Jan. 23, the WAWM Recreation & Community Services and the WAWM Activities & Fitness Center will be closed and will no longer be available as warming sites, as originally stated. Warming sites are listed at www.WestAllisWI.gov/news

Due to the extreme weather conditions predicted for Friday, Jan. 23, garbage and recycling collection will be canceled. Friday’s collection will resume on Monday, Jan. 26. The National Weather Service has issued an extreme cold watch from Thursday night (Jan. 22) through Saturday morning (Jan. 24), with wind chills potentially reaching -25 to -40 degrees. There has been a water main break at the 11500 block of Washington Street. Water service will be shut off to 30 customers from 10 a.m. through 3 p.m. today while the crew works to fix the leak.

The Chief of Police for the West Allis Police Department, Chief Patrick Mitchell, will host this public meeting. Topics will include an update on current law enforcement issues, crime trends, and challenges that impact our quality of life.
There will be two options for attending: In-person or streaming live on the WAPD Facebook page. Questions will be welcomed and addressed both in person and during the live stream.

Milwaukee County Transit System has announced service changes to Route #33, which runs through West Allis, starting Jan. 11, 2026. As of that day, the availability on weekdays will be from 6-9 a.m. and 3-6 p.m., Saturdays 10 a.m.-5 p.m., and Sundays 11 a.m.-5:30 p.m.

Public Works has confirmed there is a water main break on 96th Street and Cleveland Avenue. Crews will begin shutting down westbound Cleveland Avenue and detouring at 96th Street, but will wait for traffic from school release at Frank Lloyd Wright Intermediate School to clear before completing the shutdown. Water service to properties will be shut off on Cleveland from 96th to 99th Street until approximately 9 p.m. tonight.
