The City of West Allis has made updates to the comprehensive Flood Recovery Plan. Please read the updates online under the Community Aid and Volunteer sections for information on how to request assistance or offer support. Visit www.WestAllisWI.gov/FloodRecoveryPlan

Update: The Municipal Yard Drop Off-Site will be adjusting hours starting next week. The new hours will be Monday, Aug. 25 through Saturday, Aug 30 from 7:15 a.m. - 4 p.m. The site will remain closed on Sunday. Additionally, community dumpsters and curb-side special collections have been extended through next week. Please continue to follow the guidelines listed at www.WestAllisWI.gov/FloodRecoveryPlan

Join us for an open-house style resident information session on Tuesday, Sept. 2, from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at City Hall in the Art Gallery (7525 W. Greenfield Ave.) to learn about the potential merger of the West Allis Fire Department with the City of Wauwatosa Fire Department. This is an opportunity to review slides from the report, chat with City officials, and ask questions.
City leadership is currently reviewing the findings to determine appropriate next steps. A merger would only move forward if service levels to the communities were maintained or improved. No decisions have been made at this time.
Learn more about the merger at www.WestAllisWI.gov/FireDepartmentMerger

An important message from Mayor Dan Devine regarding the floods, recovery, and FEMA.
Good afternoon:
Milwaukee County Office of Emergency Management is working directly with Wisconsin Emergency Management in preparation for the anticipated arrival of FEMA Federal Emergency Management Agency. This visit is the next step in FEMA’s Public Assistance Program process. Following their visit, FEMA will make a recommendation on the issuance of a Presidential disaster declaration, allowing for the authorization of federal disaster assistance.
Once FEMA teams are deployed to Milwaukee, they will visit communities to verify damage, focusing on key geographic areas. OEM or other emergency management staff will accompany FEMA during these assessments.
Please know that anyone coming to your home to assess damage will introduce themselves and provide official credentials. For your own safety, always verify identification before allowing anyone inside or sharing any personal information. You can report instances of suspected fraud by emailing StopFEMAFraud@fema.dhs.gov or calling 866-223-0814.
I realize that the last 10 days have been simply awful for so many residents and businesses in our community. I’m deeply thankful to our emergency management, public health, and first responder teams for their relentless efforts in assessing the damage throughout West Allis and the county, disseminating crucial information, and linking residents to essential resources during this challenging period. Additionally, I extend my heartfelt thanks to all the volunteers, non-profits, and businesses that have rallied around the community, generously donating supplies, time, and resources.
I am hopeful that by working together, we will overcome this challenging time and emerge stronger than ever.
Information and resources continue to be regularly updated on our Flood Recovery Plan: www.WestAllisWI.gov/FloodRecoveryPlan and our Community Flood Resources page: www.WestAllisWI.gov/CommunityFloodResources
Thank you, West Allis!

The Municipal Yard Drop Off Site will be closing early today (Saturday, Aug. 16) at 4 p.m. due to reaching storage capacity. The drop off site will also be closed tomorrow (Sunday, Aug. 17). It will re-open on Monday, Aug. 18 at 8 a.m. Unfortunately, there are time limitations on when crews can bring materials to the landfill that will determine the duration of the drop-off site being open. We will have the drop-off site open on the weekends only until we reach full storage capacity. Again, we appreciate everyone’s patience.

Have you had your property damaged? It is critical that you report ALL storm damage (no matter how small) by calling 2-1-1 or filling out the damage report form here.
This documentation improves the chances of the state and federal government directing disaster relief to our community and residents. No damage is too small to report, and every report helps. If any disaster funding becomes available, it will come from state or federal programs. Unfortunately, the County and City do not have local disaster relief funds.
Take clear photos and keep detailed notes. It is difficult to go back later and prove damage without this documentation.
Know somebody who has damage but isn't on social media or checking our website for updates? Share this info with them!

There has been a water main break on 84th Street between Lapham and Orchard. The NB lanes are closed, and traffic is being routed EB at Lapham. Repairs are estimated to be completed by 8 p.m. tonight. Expect at least the easternmost lane of NB 84th Street to remain closed until the road can be repaired. Please avoid this area for the safety of the crews.

The Liberty Heights Park wading pool will be closed today, Wednesday, Aug. 13, as staff and resources are being directed to flooding recovery efforts. The City will evaluate daily to determine if resources are available to bring the pool back online from the unprecedented recent weather events.

The City of West Allis has initiated a comprehensive flood recovery plan. Please read the announcement online for detailed information and instructions.

A 6-foot section of pipe, originally installed in 1924, is being replaced. The break is likely due to the age of the pipe, with recent high temperatures potentially contributing.
Please note:
• The eastbound parking lane between 86th and 87th will remain closed until full pavement restoration, expected as early as next week.
• One eastbound lane and two westbound lanes will be open to traffic in the meantime.
This section of Greenfield Avenue was last resurfaced in 2018 due to roadway conditions. It is owned and maintained by the State of Wisconsin, and resurfacing projects do not include replacement of underground utilities. At this time, we are not aware of any planned road replacement west of 84th Street.
Water main breaks can occur due to several factors, including aging infrastructure, ground shifting, pressure fluctuations, or accidental damage during construction.
We appreciate your patience as we complete this repair. If you have any questions, please direct them to the Water Utility at (414) 302-8830 during regular business hours Mon-Fri from 7 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

A water main break at 86th & Greenfield Ave has closed the EB lane of Greenfield Ave between 87th and 86th Streets. Two-way traffic will use the WB lane. Expect backups due to the State Fair; Fair traffic should avoid the area for crew safety. Repairs should be done by 3 p.m. today, Friday, Aug. 8.
