Due to the extreme cold temperatures, there have been a few water main breaks to report on. These breaks have been repaired and water has been restored, but due to the inclement weather, crews may not be able to repair the pavement; they will evaluate this week to determine whether temporary patches or permanent restorations can be done. Breaks occurred at: - 11024 W. National Ave. (WB) - 10930 W. Mequanico Dr. -S. 96th Street between W. Manitoba Street and W. Oklahoma Avenue Updates about past water main breaks: - 72nd & KK Pkwy. – Completed repairs, full restoration to be completed in the spring. - 7409 W KK Pkwy. – Three separate breaks occurred at this address. The repairs have been made to the main and private driveway and other restoration will be completed in the spring. - 841 S 105 St. (105 & Walker) – Two separate breaks occurred near this address. Temporary patches will be done in the next week with final restoration in the spring. - 1336 S 117 St. – Pavement will be temporarily patched in the next week and full restoration will be in the spring. - 1200 Block S 96th St. – Pavement was temporarily patched with full restoration in the spring. - 2186 S 78th St. – Pavement will be temporarily patched with full restoration in the spring. Water main breaks like these occur frequently in the winter due to fluctuations in temperatures especially when temperatures are below freezing for long stretches of time. It is common and many Cities are experiencing a rise in the amount of watermain breaks. Anyone seeing roads closed should avoid the areas to ensure their own safety and the safety of the crews working.
