This year, America is celebrating the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. To celebrate the historic milestone, we’re sharing stories of individuals involved in organizations in West Allis who have made a large impact in our community through volunteerism, charitable giving, community leadership, and other meaningful contributions.

West Allis Lions Club Nomination: Gloria Lemke

Gloria Lemke has been a dedicated member of the West Allis Lions Club since June 2012 and brings with her the strength and compassion of a 42-year career as a registered ICU nurse. Her kindness, generosity, and unwavering commitment to the City of West Allis are truly extraordinary. Gloria’s love for people and animals is boundless—she is the type of person who would give the shirt off her back to someone in need.

Her impact on the West Allis Lions Club is immeasurable, and the Club and the City are incredibly fortunate to have her as part of our community. Gloria has held numerous offices at the Club, including:

  • Tail Twister

  • Board of Directors

  • Vice President

  • President

  • Membership Chair

  • LCIF Chair

  • District Diabetes Chair

  • Sunshine Chair (Health and welfare of members)

Gloria’s service extends far beyond club leadership. She:

  • Coordinates food donations to community help centers and local schools.

  • Provides essential support to individuals experiencing homelessness.

  • Is a trained vision screener and conducts regular vision screenings.

  • Supports initiatives related to childhood cancer.

  • Chairs the club’s scholarship program, through which three $1,000 scholarships and one $500 scholarship were awarded this year to West Allis seniors making a difference in the community.

  • Organizes nursing home visits and gift deliveries to brighten the lives of residents.

Gloria exemplifies the highest ideals of service, compassion, and community spirit. Her dedication is a blessing to the West Allis Lions Club and to the entire City of West Allis.
