Public Works has begun an ongoing mastic and crack-sealing project that will continue throughout the spring and summer (weather and staffing dependent). This work helps extend the lifespan of our roads and reduce the need for more costly repairs down the line.
Mastic Repair
A hot‑applied material made of polymer‑modified asphalt and aggregate.
It may appear “bumpier” than traditional crack‑sealing tar.
Used on failing roads to extend the lifespan of pavement that shows signs of alligator cracking, distress, depressions, or shallow potholes.
Highly elastic, helping prevent water infiltration and future cracking.
Can be applied nearly year‑round if the pavement is dry.
Durable repairs typically last 3–5 years, which can help bridge the gap of a street resurfacing project scheduled for a few years out in the Capital Improvement Project, but needs attention now.
Roads usually reopen 20–60 minutes after application, minimizing disruption.
Crack Seal/Tar
Used to seal horizontal cracks up to 1" wide.
More labor‑intensive and generally done in spring through fall due to moisture concerns.
Also offers a typical lifespan of 3–5 years.
Residents may see temporary driveway or lane closures while work is underway. These closures are brief, but they allow crews to safely and effectively apply materials that protect our roadways.
Thank you for your patience as we work to keep our streets safer and in better condition for everyone.
