A row of houses in West Allis

Wisconsin State law requires that municipalities conduct revaluation of properties to ensure accurate assessments and fair property taxation. In the coming days, property owners will receive notices in the mail regarding their new assessments. If you receive a notice and wish to discuss the changes:

  1. Meet with the assessor during Open Book appointments. Minor errors and misunderstandings can often be corrected with the assessor instead of making a formal appeal. You can bring your questions and additional information to Open Book, April 13-17 or April 20-25 at City Hall located at 7525 W. Greenfield Ave. Open Book is by appointment only. Please contact assessor@westalliswi.gov, call 414-302-8230 to schedule a time, or request a review online. Please bring any additional information that will help the assessor ensure your assessment is accurate.

  2. File a formal appeal with the Board of Review. If you are not satisfied with the results of your property review, you can file a formal appeal with the 2026 Board of Review. The Board of Review is like a court of law. Its job is to make sure the facts presented are accurate and fair, not to determine property values. If you think your assessment is unfair or too high compared to other properties in West Allis, you or someone representing you can present evidence to the Board to make your case. The Board of Review will meet on May 7 at City Hall.

To file a formal appeal, you must:

  1. Provide the City Clerk with written or oral notice of intent to file an objection at least 48 hours before the first scheduled BOR meeting, or no later than 10 a.m., Tuesday, May 5, 2026. You may email clerk@westalliswi.gov or call 414-302-8220.

  2. If you file a written or oral notice of intent by 10 a.m. on May 5, then you have until 12 p.m. noon on Thursday, May 7 to file a completed written and signed Objection Form for Real Property Assessment (PA-115A) with the City Clerk.

  3. If you do not file a written or oral notice of intent, then you have until 10 a.m. on May 5 to file a written objection on Objection Form for Real Property Assessment (PA-115A)

  4. Review additional appeal information.
