In the next few days, West Allis property owners will receive important information in the mail regarding the upcoming City-wide property revaluation. Assessment notices will be mailed and available online at www.WestAllisWIi.gov/PropertyAssessments by April 7.
Why is this happening?
Wisconsin law requires municipalities to periodically revalue properties to ensure assessments reflect current market conditions and maintain fairness across all properties. A revaluation does not change the overall tax levy – it ensures that the existing tax burden is re-divided between properties based on accurate, updated values. Revaluations are governed by state statutes.
Since 2020, West Allis has experienced a strong seller’s market. Fueled by historically low interest rates, limited housing inventory, and increased demand for suburban living, home buyers have faced intense competition. Multiple-offer situations and bidding wars became common, driving up sale prices and influencing property assessments across the city.
What should you do?
Watch for your assessment notice in the mail.
