Update from Public Works - Dec. 17 at 8:10 a.m.
Hauling of the leaf piles has been completed.
Last night, 3rd shift spread a salt/sand mixture in alleys to combat the ice and add traction. Today, crews will continue scraping and spreading salt on top of ice in parking lots and residential areas throughout the City.
Today, crews will continue to haul snow out of 22 cul-de-sacs and dead ends, with completion expected on Friday, Dec. 19.
Update from Public Works - Dec. 16 at 4:30 p.m.
Last night, three Equipment Operators on third shift cleared all school crossings and corners of ice and snow. Today, crews have begun hauling 43 snow piles out of cul-de-sacs and 32 snow piles out of dead ends. Three trucks have been out salting and liquid-deicing residential parking lanes and alleys in the community. Third shift will continue tonight to finish spreading de-icing materials in alleys.
As of 3 p.m., crews have collected every large pile throughout the City that is on their list. Third shift will continue tonight (Dec. 16). With warmer temperatures ahead, crews will utilize vac-trucks and attempt to clean up leaves that have been pushed/plowed onto terrace areas.
Starting Wednesday, Dec. 17, crews will continue hauling snow and will have a contingency of ice control trucks out. Additionally, due to the cold temperatures last weekend, crews have been addressing potholes that have appeared throughout the City.
Thank you for your continued patience as crews work to clean the City of leaf and snow piles.
Leaf Collection Update from Public Works - Dec. 12 at 8:05 a.m.
On Thursday, Dec. 11, Public Works crews worked a 12-hour shift on four fronts:
Leaf collection of the 191 outstanding piles.
Snow and ice control in the residential areas.
Ice control on the main throughways in the parking lanes for the patrons of the businesses throughout the City.
Ice control in the alleys as well.
A total of 44 piles were collected resulting in 40 tandem dump trucks and 31 roll off containers (20 yards) for a total of 71 trips to Morgan Avenue and back.
Today, Friday, Dec. 12, crews will continue collecting the 120 existing piles of leaves, spot-spreading road salt on any areas that froze up overnight, and will start hauling of snow out of our cul-de-sacs and dead ends. This requires crews to convert trucks from salt spreaders to dump trucks.
On Monday, crews will resume collecting any existing leaf piles and continue hauling snow out of the cul-de-sacs and dead ends.

Leaf Collection Update from Public Works - Dec. 9 at 3:45 p.m.
On Monday, Dec. 8, first shift picked up 70 piles of leaves, resulting in 31 tandem dump trucks and 33 roll-off containers (20 yards) for a total of 64 trips to Morgan Avenue and back.
First shift also had snowplow operators re-plowing the City from Sunday’s snow. Last night, third shift pushed leaves from sections 17, 18, and 19 and created 74 additional piles for a total of 182 piles to be collected by first shift. Early this morning (third shift) had a salting operation to address the snowfall across the City.
Today, crews have been pushing leaves in sections 20, 1, 2, and 3, as well as starting to collect the existing 182 piles. Crews continue to work 12-hour shifts and project the pushing of leaves to be completed by Wednesday, Dec. 10, around 3 p.m., subject to change due to weather and/or equipment. At this time, we project leaf collection and hauling to be complete by Friday, Dec. 12, by 7 p.m., subject to change due to weather and equipment.
As a reminder, please be sure to follow posted parking restrictions and avoid parking on leaf piles, as this hinders pushing and collection efforts. Those that are parked illegally will be addressed by the Police Department, ticketed, and possibly towed.
Leaf Collection Update from Public Works - Dec. 8 at 9:51 a.m.
Third shift on Saturday, Dec. 6, pushed Sections 15 and 16, creating 40 piles
First shift on Saturday collected 67 piles. As of today, Monday, Dec. 8, crews have a total of 178 piles to collect. The breakdown is:
71 tandem dump trucks and 21 containers (20 yards), for a total of 92 trips to Morgan Avenue and back. This is decreased compared to past days due to:
Crews had to prep equipment for the parade, which included washing, decorating, and adding signage.
Crews had to remove tailgates from the dump trucks hauling leaves and put salt spreaders and load with salt in prep for Sunday's snowplow operation.
Three employees started anti-icing the main thoroughfares in preparation for Sunday’s snow event.
There were equipment issues.
A total of 23 volunteers continued efforts with leaf collection.
Today, Dec. 8, crews are concentrating on collecting the 178 existing piles in preparation for some potential ugly weather on Wednesday (snow & rain).
Crews will continue to work 12-hour shifts this week, pushing and collecting the last 7 sections of the City.
Leaf Collection Update from Public Works - Dec. 6 at 7:11 a.m.
Last night third shift got through Sections 13 and 14, creating 78 piles. As of this morning, crews have a total of 185 piles to be collected.
Yesterday, Friday, Dec. 5, the crews (from 7 a.m. - 7 p.m.) collected 70 piles. The breakdown was
145 tandem dump truck loads and 26 roll-off containers (20 yards), for a total of 171 trips to Morgan Avenue and back, outperforming yesterday’s numbers.
Two crews are continuing to push leaves/snow in Section 15, and two crews are working on the 185 piles to be collected.
The City has 30 volunteer employees working today, Saturday, Dec. 6.
Today's operation has been cut from 8 hours to 6 hours long due to the NOAA forecast of snow for our area. If the forecast stays “true,” we could have a contingency of 20-35 employees for a snow operation, and drivers need rest.
If the road surfaces are dry by 10 a.m., crews will be applying brine to the streets as part of the preparations for this snow event.
Employees are prepping equipment for tonight’s parade.
Leaf Collection Update from Public Works - Dec. 5 at 1:53 p.m.
On Dec. 4, 51 leaf piles were collected between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m., which resulted in 98 tandem dump trucks and 31 roll-off containers (20 yards) filled and dumped for a total of 129 trips to Morgan Avenue and back.
Last night (Dec. 4), third shift crews started pushing leaves into piles in Section 13 (see map). Combined with the piles from Sections 11, 12, and 13, an additional 70 piles were created for a total of 172 piles. Crews will be working until 7 p.m. tonight (Dec. 5) with a focus on only hauling existing piles. Crews are scheduled for 8-hour shifts on Saturday to continue the collection process.
Additional snowfall is expected Saturday night into Sunday, as well as Monday night into Wednesday, which will require leaf collection delays to adequately address any accumulation. As a reminder, equipment used for leaf collection is also used for plowing and salting. Converting equipment back to plowing/salting can slow the collection process.
We appreciate everyone’s patience as our crews work through the City with this collection while navigating additional snowfall, and we thank them for their work and dedication to keeping our streets safe and clean.
