Starting on January 1, 2026, there will be new garbage guidelines in place. Items must be properly prepared for curbside or alley pick up. Items placed outside the garbage cart are properly prepared if:

  • There are 3 items or fewer, and they are solid and not bendable. If more than 3 items are placed outside of the cart, they will be subject to a fee.

  • The total of all items does not exceed one cubic yard, the size of a standard clothes dryer.

  • No single item exceeds 50 pounds.

  • No items pose a threat to people or property.

Items must be safe and easy to remove.

  • Items are not a food source or attractive to rodents.

There are updates to mattresses and furniture collection as well:

  • Garbage crews will remove full, twin, and crib-size mattresses with regular collection as one of the 3 items outside of your cart. Each item should be less than 50 pounds, and the total of the 3 items should measure less than 1 cubic yard.

  • Furniture and other items may have a fee based on weight and handling requirements.

A full list of fee breakdowns is available in our Municipal Code, and for a full list of garbage collection rules, read the Municipal Code.
