Update for Saturday, Nov. 29 at 9:30 p.m.
The Department of Public Works will be initiating a “Full Plow” Operation at 2 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 30, to address the main thoroughfares first and then the residential streets and alleys, sidewalks, safety islands, and parking lots in the public right-of-way. We ask for your patience and understanding as we prioritize main streets for emergency vehicles. Plows have been through the residential areas at least once, and some a second time. Every driver is aware of the leaves and will stay away from going curb-to-curb in the residential areas in an attempt not to disturb the leaf piles so they can be addressed at a later time. We are aware that leaf collection still needs to be addressed and is planned to take place after the storm. We will make every effort to avoid leaf piles during snowplow operation. Thank you for your patience as we continue to clear the roads, and please use caution if you plan to travel.
A snow emergency has been declared starting at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 29, through 3 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 1. Snow emergency parking rules and regulations will be in place during this time.
During the Snow Emergency
During the snow emergency, alternate side parking will be in effect between 12 a.m. midnight until 3 p.m. until the end of the snow emergency so plows can clear both sides of the street. As such:
On even-numbered calendar days (before midnight), such as Nov. 30, park on the EVEN side of the street from midnight until 2:59 p.m.
On odd-numbered calendar days (before midnight,) such as Nov. 29 and Dec. 1, etc., park on the ODD side of the street from midnight until 2:59 p.m.
Park on EITHER side of the street between 3 p.m. until 11:59 p.m., following all posted parking signs. Illegally parked vehicles may be towed without notice.
"No Parking" signs on streets remain in effect regardless of snow emergencies.
Nighttime parking e-permits are still required.
Regular garbage and recycling collection is expected for Monday, Dec. 1 but may change due to the amount of snow received. The West Allis Farmers Market will close at 3 p.m. on Saturday. At this time, forecasts expect 6 - 11 inches of snow for our area, with the heaviest accumulations Saturday afternoon. During the snow emergency, crews will address the main thoroughfares and launch a full plow operation early Sunday morning to address main thoroughfares, residential streets and alleys, sidewalks, safety islands, and parking lots in the public right-of-way.
Crews will make every attempt to collect remaining leaves after the snowstorm, dependent on weather/temperatures. In the event piles are disturbed, residents are asked to reposition leaf piles into the right-of-way for future collection.
Main Thoroughfare Streets
During the declared snow emergency time frame, there is:
No street parking allowed on main thoroughfare streets during the duration of the snow emergency.
Any illegally parked vehicles can be towed without notice.
Main thoroughfare streets shall consist of the major traffic, mass transit, and emergency vehicle routes in the City of West Allis.
