September 29 Community Update



Join the West Allis Police Department and members of our community for a day of resolution and reconciliation at Pumpkins in the Park on Monday, Oct. 11 from 4 – 6 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Park, 6900 W. National Ave. Pumpkins in the Park hosted is by Apostle Presbyterian Church and the West Allis Police Department, complete with free pumpkin painting, music and a picnic-style dinner. National Faith & Blue day is a collaborative effort to build bridges and break biases.  


West Allis Health Department will offer Community Flu Vaccine Clinics this October. 

  • Wednesday, Oct. 13 | 2 – 6 p.m. | West Allis Farmers Market (Drive-Thru Clinic) 
  • Thursday, Oct. 14 | 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. | West Milwaukee Community Center 
  • Tuesday, Oct. 19 | 3 – 7 p.m. | West Allis-West Milwaukee Recreation Center 
  • Friday, Oct. 29 | 1 – 3 p.m. | West Allis Senior Center 

These clinics are drop-in and no appointment is necessary. Open to all West Allis and West Milwaukee residents.  

Only insurances accepted: Medicare, Medicare Advantage and Forward Health.  

All children 18 and under can receive the flu vaccine at no cost. Any insurance holder who has any other insurance coverage outside of the ones listed above will have to pay by cash or check. 


Adults 19+ without Medicare, Medicare Advantage or Forward Health will have to pay by cash or check at any West Allis Health Department Flu Clinic.  If you have insurance but it is not listed, we recommend you research your options to see if you can find a provider that accepts your insurance (i.e. your doctor's office, Walgreens, CVS, etc.).  

  • Regular Dose Flu Shot = $30
  • High Dose Flu Shot = $60

Take advantage of curbside yard waste collection which takes place each fall. Yard waste materials such as leaves, weeds, lawn thatch, flowers, vines, and other non-fruit or vegetable material may be placed in the curb-line of the street between Sept. 26 through the week of Nov.14, 2021. Please note that collection will not begin for up to two weeks after the start date of collection. Learn more:  

Just a reminder to residents the last brush collection for red weeks is Sept. 27 to Oct. 1 and for black weeks is Oct. 4 to Oct. 8. After these dates brush may be brought to the Municipal Yard, 6300 W. McGeoch Ave., for disposal.  


Southbound 76th Street will be closed north of Lincoln Avenue starting on Tuesday, September 28th for sanitary sewer work and intersection improvements.  It is expected to be closed until Tuesday, October 5th, unless unforeseen conditions extend this delay. 


Hire and get hired! The City of West Allis, Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC), Lutheran Social Services, and Employ Milwaukee are proud to partner to present Local Connect, a job fair exclusive to the IT, healthcare, and hospitality industries.   

Local Connect will be held on Monday, Oct. 18 from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. at Hampton Inn and Suites Milwaukee West, 8201 W. Greenfield Ave. in West Allis. Employer registration is just $50, and there is no cost for candidates to attend!  

Employers in the IT, healthcare, and hospitality industries are invited to attend Local Connect. Registration is just $50! Meet qualified candidates and recruit local talent for your open positions.   

  • Employers attending Local Connect will receive one six foot skirted table space  
  • Registration fee includes complimentary light morning refreshments and box lunch  
  • Network with other professionals and learn more about workforce support opportunities from our sponsors

Job seekers ages 16 and up are encouraged to attend Local Connect to learn more about opportunities in the IT, healthcare, and hospitality fields. A list of participating employers will be shared on this website and City of West Allis social media prior to this event.   

Prior to the Healthcare, Hospitality & IT Job Fair, MATC and Employ Milwaukee will offer FREE career readiness workshops for job seekers on Tuesday, October 12th from 10 am - 1 pm and Thursday, October 14th from 1 pm - 4 pm. at MATC’s West Allis campus, 1200 S 71st St. The workshops will address interview and job readiness skills such as “Do’s and Don’ts,” “Dress for Success,” “Your Elevator Speech,” and will offer resume reviews for job seekers. These workshops are free and drop-in, so stop by to brush up on your job search skills and ace those interviews when you attend Hospitality Connect!  

Job seekers are encouraged to bring printed, current copies of their resumes to the Healthcare, Hospitality & IT Job Fair to share with employers.
