CHEESE WHEEL CLASSICCyclists racing through Becher St

The Cheese Wheel Classic Bike Race, established in 2022, is one of the newest stages of the annual Tour of America's Dairyland. This multi-stage bike race was founded in 2009 and visits 11 different communities in Southeastern Wisconsin making it the largest competitive road cycling series in the nation! The Cheese Wheel Classic weaves through the Becher St. neighborhood and features professional. amateur, and junior men's and women's races. The Liberty Heights Park Neighborhood Association, West-Allis-West Milwaukee Recreation Department, and the City of West Allis Health and Police Departments teach safe biking skills at the Children's Bike Rodeo each summer. At the rodeo, children can go from station to station to learn a variety of safety and riding skills and gain confidence in their skills. This year, the City is hosting its first community bike rides! The first, the East Allis Mayor's Ride, was hosted by Grebe's Bakery during National Bike Week in June 2023. This slow-roll, no-drop ride toured the East Allis neighborhood and included people of all ages and abilities. Coming up next is the September Community Bike Ride hosted by Ope! Brewing.

For the past 5 years, the West-Allis-West Milwaukee Recreation Department has offered a camp focused on bike safety for children grades 5th-8th. The camp is free for participants thanks to the partnership of the Friends of Hank Aaron State Trail. Registration for this summer's camp opens to residents on April 24th.
