Sensitive Crimes Unit

The Sensitive Crimes Unit (SCU) consists of 5 Detectives and 1 Victim Advocate.  The SCU is supervised by the Sensitive Crimes Lieutenant.

The Sensitive Crimes Unit is committed to providing the highest degree of professionalism and integrity to the citizens of West Allis. Detectives in the SCU continue to receive the most up to date training and continue to strive for excellence when conducting their investigations.

The Sensitive Crimes Unit investigates crimes including, but not limited to, sexual assault, child neglect, physical abuse of a child, elder abuse, CHIPS cases, juvenile death, juvenile crimes, and runaways.  Detectives work closely with the Bureau of Milwaukee Child Welfare and the Child Protection Center at Children’s Hospital and many other agencies.

The Sensitive Crimes Unit adheres to the Milwaukee County Joint Protocol on A Collaborative Response to Child Maltreatment.   This allows our Detectives to utilize the vast resources / services from the various agencies throughout Milwaukee County and beyond.

Additionally, a number of Detectives assigned to the Sensitive Crimes Unit have been trained in forensic interviewing.  This allows Detectives to utilize the child-friendly interview rooms at the Child Protection Center, which are designed to allow interviews to be recorded.  The recorded forensic interviews serve many purposes, but most importantly it reduces the trauma of a child having to testify in court.  The forensic interviews are critical to the prosecution of offenders who commit crimes against children.

The Sensitive Crimes Unit is unique in that it has a Victim Advocate who can assist victims of domestic violence.  Our Victim Advocate is a tremendous resource and provides victims of domestic violence with a compassionate and caring professional to help make their traumatic experience less stressful and intimidating.

The staff of the Sensitive Crimes Unit is constantly evaluating new strategies to serve the citizens of West Allis in the most effective, professional and caring fashion.
