Refuse & Recycling
Recycling_WebpageBanner.jpg

96 gallon recycling carts will be delivered curbside to all residences up to four family units beginning June 19.  The carts will be blue with yellow lids, and will allow commingling of paper, glass, plastic, aluminum and cardboard recyclables.  These initial carts will be provided free of charge to residents, though residents will be responsible for purchasing replacement carts if their original cart is damaged or stolen.

The new carts will provide an easier recycling system for residents and will help keep the streets and neighborhoods clean.  In addition, the simplified recycling program is expected to encourage more residents to recycle, which will save the city thousands of dollars each year in landfill fees.

The City is working to communicate the new recycling program and cart delivery timeline to residents.  Direct mail postcards will notify residents of the new recycling guidelines and expected cart deliveries, and print instructions for the new recycling program will be delivered with the carts.

Weekly refuse collection is provided to one, two, and three family residences in the City of West Allis.  Refuse must be accessible to crews at an alley or curb location by 7:00 a.m. on the assigned day of collection.

The City provides every other week recycling collection service for one to four family residences.  Recyclables should be placed at the curb or alley edge by 7:00 a.m. on the same day as your refuse collection.  Recyclables should be contained in a 30 gallon see through plastic bag with a tie.

Back door collection service will be provided to households experiencing medical hardships and, for an annual service fee, to other households requesting the additional service.

Refuse and recyclables may also be dropped off at the Municipal Yard.
